Global Exchange awarded with foreign exchange concession at Hong Kong International Airport

04 • 10 • 2017

  • The company will open 10 branches at the third busiest airport in the world in terms of international passengers with a total number of users amounting to 70 million.
  • This project reinforces the positions of Global Exchange in Asia-Pacific region after the concession awarded in Sydney Airport in 2016.

Salamanca, 3 October 2017. Global Exchange, a multinational specialised in providing currency exchange services at international airports and other tourist sites, has been awarded with foreign exchange concession at Hong Kong International Airport. The contract will have a duration of 5 years and foresees the opening of 10 branches over the first half of 2018.

The concession is a significant milestone for the company in its expansion in the Asia-Pacific Region. Hong Kong Airport is a strategic hub and the world’s third busiest airport in terms of international passengers whose number exceeds 70 million, surpassed only by Heathrow Airport in London and Dubai Airport in the United Arab Emirates. In 2016, the total number of passengers amounted to 70.5 million, 70.1 of them being international passengers who are in greater need of foreign exchange services.

As the President of the Company, Isidoro J. Alanís said, “Being awarded with foreign exchange concession in Hong Kong International Airport is an important step in the expansion plan of the company in Asia-Pacific region. Given the growth experienced by the tourism industry in the area, it is one of the markets with the greatest potential in our sector.” Ten new branches will be opened in arrivals, departures, public areas and passenger restricted areas, representing one of the sites with the biggest number of branches among the workplaces of the company.

The opening, scheduled between January and February 2018, is a clear indication of the trust placed by one of the world’s leading airports in Global Exchange services, its state-of-the-art proposal and the latest technology able to satisfy the needs of the tourist of the 21st century.

The opening of the new Global Exchange branches will lead to the creation of more than 100 jobs, forming a highly professional team with all the necessary qualifications and knowledge to fulfil the company’s commitment to an excellent and differentiated service.

On top of that, Global Exchange will offer its customers in Hong Kong International Airport a series of innovative technological services, one of them being multi-channel platforms for currency pre-orders. “Customer Service has always been key to business sustainability at Global Exchange. Nowadays, our customers not only receive an excellent service, but are also immersed in innovation and digital transformation of all the processes. We anticipate the needs of our customers,” explains Alanís.

A giant step for the Spanish multinational

During its national and international expansion, Global Exchange gained leading positions in the Ibero-American market. However, over the last years the company has steered its expansion strategy in a new direction with the opening of branches in other parts of the world, such as the Middle East, Asia and Oceania. In 2016, the company took a decisive step in entering the Asia-Pacific region, winning the foreign exchange concession in Sydney International Airport. The fact that Global Exchange was awarded the foreign exchange concession in Hong Kong International Airport is, without doubt, an important advance in strengthening its positions in the region. The company will be present in two landmark aerodromes of the world with particular importance in the region. Currently Global Exchange is operating in 20 countries on 5 continents.
