The Spanish company, a world leader in currency exchange at airports, joins the ambitious Australian project set to open on October 25, 2026.
It will provide currency exchange services in one of Australia's most ambitious projects, which is expected to reach 82 million travelers by the 2060s.
For Isidoro J. Alanís, President and CEO of Global Exchange, "This partnership strengthens our position as a world leader in airport currency exchange services, and it's a unique opportunity to support WSI from day one of operations."
Western Sydney International Airport (Nancy-Bird Walton) has announced its strategic partnership with Global Exchange, the world's leading operator in airport currency exchange services, as part of preparations to welcome its first passengers from October 25 this year.
Global Exchange brings more than three decades of experience and currently operates in 29 countries, 90 international airports with a total of 520 exchange offices serving over 12.5 million customers annually.
A strategic alliance for Sydney's new hub
WSI Chief Executive Simon Hickey highlighted the value of this partnership: "We are delighted to welcome Global Exchange to WSI as the countdown to the opening of Sydney's new international terminal draws closer. Global Exchange brings extensive experience and valuable exchange services that our passengers will be able to access conveniently during their travels from WSI. It's a key part of the excellent retail experience we're thrilled to offer our passengers when we begin operations later this year."
Comprehensive services for international and domestic travellers
Global Exchange will operate two exchange offices equipped with ATMs: one in WSI's international departures area and another in the terminal's arrivals zone. Additionally, an ATM will be installed in the domestic departures area.
Travellers will also have access to innovative services designed to make their journeys easier, such as Click and Collect, which allows them to book currency online and collect it quickly at the airport offices, or access to more than 60 different currencies.
Strategic expansion in Asia-Pacific
Isidoro J. Alanís, President and CEO of Global Exchange, stated: "We are proud to be part of Western Sydney International Airport, which represents a major step forward in our expansion into the Asia-Pacific market. This partnership strengthens our position as the world leader in airport currency exchange services, and it's a unique opportunity to support WSI from its first day of operations. We are committed to providing passengers with the same excellent service we offer at the 90 airports where we already operate worldwide, with the innovation, efficiency and convenience that modern travellers demand."
Meanwhile, Alberto Suárez, Head of Global Exchange in both Australia and the Pacific region, said: "We are very excited to partner with WSI as it prepares to welcome its first passengers. The opening of this new airport is a significant milestone for Australia's aviation sector, and we're delighted to help create seamless and welcoming experiences through our currency exchange services."
A transformative airport project
WSI's Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, Alison Webster, noted: "WSI is delighted to have Global Exchange and its innovative currency exchange services on board. They will offer convenience and multiple options to passengers, airport staff and other visitors. We continue to deliver on WSI's commercial vision, and we'll be sharing more news about the rest of our commercial partnerships over the coming months as our opening day approaches."
WSI will open its operations for travelers on October 25, 2026, with an initial capacity of 10 million passengers per year, and projections to reach 82 million annual passengers in the 2060s.
