With its entry into Japan, the Spanish multinational becomes the global leader in currency exchange with presence in the highest number of countries and international airports.
The group has quadrupled its turnover in the last 10 years and since 2020 has achieved 81% growth in number of offices, 80% in employees, and 58% in number of countries.
In 2025, it consolidates its expansion in Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America, with operations in Romania, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Japan, and expanding offices in Mexico.
For Isidoro J. Alanís, President and CEO: "Our strategy is to strengthen our global leadership by balancing the consolidation of our presence with the opening of new markets and countries."
The company celebrates this milestone with the launch of its new corporate video.
The Spanish multinational Global Exchange, dedicated to currency exchange, becomes the world leader in the sector after its establishment this month in Tokyo, Japan. With this opening, it now operates in 30 countries, representing the largest presence of an international currency exchange company.
In this way, during 2025 the group has added presence in five new countries (Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Romania, and Japan) with the opening of 23 new offices. Today it is a leader not only by the number of countries where it operates but also by presence in international airports, 84 worldwide.
This is a milestone in the history of the company, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2026 and has experienced an unprecedented increase in its business figures over the last decade. The group has achieved 281% growth, reaching a business figure of 275.2 million euros in 2024, almost quadrupling the 72.2 million recorded in 2015.
81% growth in exchange offices in five years
The group's trajectory since 2020 confirms its ability to adapt to new markets and respond to the needs of customers across all continents. In this regard, Global Exchange has increased by 58% the number of countries with operational presence, from 19 to 30 countries currently. Additionally, it has grown 81% in the number of international offices, now registering 490 worldwide.
This has been achieved while also increasing its professional staff by 80% during the same period, with 2,900 people currently employed. To achieve these results, the Spanish company has implemented a solid innovation strategy from its technological hub in Salamanca, oriented towards operational excellence, security in operations, and a wide range of services for the exchange of more than 70 currencies.
Isidoro J. Alanís, President and CEO of Global Exchange, emphasizes that "we have been able to adapt to new markets and respond to the needs of customers on all continents, which has allowed us to multiply our business figures in the last 10 years and consolidate our position as global leaders in the sector. We face the coming years with the same ambition to grow in new countries, international airports, and offices."
Record-time expansion in Asia-Pacific
The most recent milestone has been the entry into Japan, a key market in Asia and one of the world's main tourist destinations, with nearly 37 million international visitors recorded in 2024, 47% more than the previous year according to the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO). Specifically, Global Exchange has opened two street offices in two of Tokyo's most tourist-frequented districts: Ginza and Ueno.
With this opening, Global Exchange strengthens and expands its network of offices in the Asia-Pacific region, where in recent months it has also opened operations at international airports in Auckland, New Zealand, with eight offices, and in Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, and Langkawi in Malaysia, with six offices, adding to those the group already had operating in Australia, India, and Hong Kong.
Consolidated growth in Europe and Latin America
In the last five months, the group has also opened two offices in the city of Cluj-Napoca, the cultural and university epicenter of Romania.
Additionally, it has opened three more offices at Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, Peru. This latest implementation consolidates the multinational's strategy in Latin America, Global Exchange's main territorial area in its international business.
In this sense, Mexico is the epicenter of Global Exchange's activity in the American continent, where the group has been present since 2008 and where it has also opened eight new offices in the last year. Specifically, six at Cancun Airport, one of the five busiest in Latin America, another at Cozumel Airport, the main tourist port in the Caribbean, and another office in Merida, the capital of Yucatan. In total, the group has 50 work centers in Mexico, 72 offices distributed across 17 airports, 23 hotels, and 9 urban locations, as well as more than 390 professionals.
As Isidoro J. Alanís highlights, "our goal is to gain presence in the main tourist and financial hubs of the world, which reflects our commitment to lead the sector in all regions where we now have a presence."
